Zachary Mezzo is an experimental violinist and composer from New York, whose music blends elements of ambient, minimalism, electronics, and noise. His live sets feature a vulnerable, physical performance style and provide an immersive listener experience, juxtaposing intimate textures with an in-your-face aggression.

Mezzo’s debut full-length record Home Movies—a collage of field recordings, DIY chamber music, and dissected songwriting—was released on Crane Operator (Orange Label Records) in April 2026. The album melds a wide variety of recording methods and audio sources with raw takes of violin, voice, and processed piano to create an unusual blend of texture and style. Home Movies explores the moments between these sounds and amplifies them to expose the cracks. As a follow-up to his electronic focused noise-violin EP Proximity, this record follows a more organic path, inviting listeners to reflect in the quiet spaces created, while still maintaining a dissonant edge and a through-line of discomfort that is essential to Mezzo’s writing.

His most recent performance project is the Zachary Mezzo String Ensemble, an all-star cast of New York strings players brought together for an evening-length guided improvisation piece using only stopwatches and a set of written instructions as the score. Their debut performance was documented on the album Live at Stone Circle.

Mezzo was a member of the rock band Catcher and has collaborated with countless artists in the NYC music scene and beyond including Christopher Emond, Alana Markel, knotted, Mila Culpa, Miss Grit, ideasforconversations, Been Stellar, Holidays in the United States and more. He has composed for ensembles such as JACK Quartet, Bearthoven Trio, Unheard-of Ensemble, NYU Contemporary Music Ensemble and is an active score composer and arranger. Recent projects include the The Magus Circle (ByWitchlight Games) and the experimental feature film Cat Video (TBD). He holds a B.M. in Music Theory and Composition from NYU where he studied with Michael Gordon and Justin Dello Joio.
